Apple Sold A Record Of 15 Million iPhones In The US In Q2 2020

According to a new report shared by Canalys, Apple sold about 15 million iPhones in the United States in the second quarter of 2020, setting a new record in the United States.

Apple’s iPhone 11 device shipments are 15% more than last year’s iPhone XR. Most notably, the new iPhone SE has promoted Apple's quarterly market share growth to 47%. Overall, Apple’s device shipments increased by 10% over the same period last year.

In the second quarter, smartphone manufacturers sold 31.9 million smartphones in the United States. It was down 5% year-on-year but increased by 11% month-on-month. Manufacturing plants reopened in China at the end of March and retail stores reopened in May and June are the main drivers of growth.

Approximately 70% of smartphones shipped in the United States in the second quarter of 2020 were made in China, an increase of 60% over the previous quarter.

Despite the low penetration rate of 5G in the second quarter of 2020, this figure is projected to rise as more 5G-enabled devices enter the market in the coming months. Apple is launching 5G-enabled iPhones this fall, contributing to the growth of 5G.

In every 10 devices sold, Apple and Samsung account for 7 units. The average price of smartphones in the United States has dropped by 10% compared to last year, to $503.

Canalys found that distributors are building up orders for ultra-low-end Android smartphones from lesser-known brands such as Unimax and Wiko. In addition to the success of the iPhone SE, the sub-$400 market segment seems to be expected to gain greater attention.
