This morning is the day of the September Apple Special Event, which will be held at Apple Park at 10 am PDT. The event will be online-only, with prerecorded video of Apple executives introducing the new software, iPhones, and Apple Watch. With the event only an hour away, there are a few rumors about the upcoming Apple products. Here is a quick summary of every product that is going to be announced soon.
The next iPhone models are less likely to be unveiled at the event, despite its release date will be in the next month due to the production delays. This will be like the iPhone XR in 2018 when Apple set its release date in late October, and the iPhone XS in September. Besides the delayed release date for the iPhone 12, there will be 2 sizes for each variant of the iPhone, which the variants include the budget iPhone made out of glass and aluminum and the costlier iPhone 12 Pro in glass and stainless steel. These iPhone variants will have a regular and “Max” size, in the screen sizes of 5.4, 6.1, and 6.7 inches. The 5.4” models will be the smallest iPhone Apple announced this year besides the 2nd generation iPhone SE. On the other hand, features include a LiDAR sensor for iPhone 12 Pro cameras, a new blue color, notches, and an edge-to-edge display.
As the title of the invitation is “Time Flies”, the name informs Apple fans that the upcoming event will unveil a new Apple Watch. This is true as there will be another major revamp of the Apple Watch Series 6, more for the hardware and software instead of the external design. The most important changes go for the health features from oxygen saturation measurements found in watchOS beta code and mental health features such as stress and panic detection, which will notify the wearer if they are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or angry to take breathing sessions in the Breathe app. This will add into the Breathe app, introduced in watchOS 3 as an app that reminds users to take deep breaths for 1-5 minute sessions. Other than health features, the same 40mm, and 44mm casing sizes will remain but with a new S6 chip and a larger, 303.8 mAH battery.
A budget model with Apple Watch Series 4 designs and features may be introduced with the ECG app and an S5 chip. Apple has also done that with the Series 1 back in 2016, as a budget model for the Series 2 and 3 with its features from the original Apple Watch.
The upcoming iPad Air will feature a bezel-less design like the 11-inch iPad Pro 2020 with Touch ID at an external area of the device. The iPad will feature a USB-C port like the Pro version despite the Liquid Retina display will not include ProMotion. The next iPad will feature an A14 chip, a Smart Connector in the rear of the casing, and 4 stereo speakers. This design looks like the 2018-2020 iPad Pro but in a slightly more affordable model.
For subscriptions, Apple will be launching an all-in-one subscription service comprising of their Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, Apple Music, and Apple News+ services in one subscription. There is also rumors that there will be a home fitness subscription from Apple with GymKit support expansion to home workout equipment, which can be a useful subscription service during the coronavirus gym closures. The iOS 14 GM update could be rolled out to beta testers as an early release for the public iOS 14 update. iOS and iPadOS 14, watchOS 7, macOS Big Sur, and tvOS 14 will also be publicly available a few days after the event.
This Apple Special Event will be completely different from last year, but it will look stunning as the WWDC keynote this year. All Apple fans will be looking forward to seeing the new iPhone, Apple Watch, and iPad Air today. Watch it live from the Apple website and YouTube at 10 am PDT.
