Reports: Apple May Planning Launch 6.48 Sized OLED iPhone Next Year

While still few weeks until Apple to unveil the so-called iPhone 8, which widely rumored to be its first iPhone with an OLED display, and some rumors has already turned its attention to next year’s iPhone lineups.

According to South Korea’s ETNews, citing a supply-chain source that echoing an earlier rumor that Apple is planning on an even larger OLED iPhone next year. Apple is working with Samsung Display and its other suppliers on the development of next-generation OLED displays in 5.85-inch and 6.46-inch sizes.

The Korea Herald source appears to be the same as the ETNews report, which says that Apple was working on a slightly smaller 5.28-inch model alongside the 6.46-inch one. The latest report says that the claimed decision to stick to larger screens was driven both by consumer demand and technological developments.

Sources said Apple until recently considered launching 5.28-inch and 6.46-inch OLED iPhones next year but the plan for the 5.28-inch model was ditched due to the growing consumer demand for bigger-screen phones and related technical progress such as full-screen display.

With a 6.48 inch display, the iPhone 9 would have an even larger screen than the 6.3-inch Galaxy Note 8. Meanwhile, the 5.85-inch version would likely be the same size as the iPhone 8. It’s worth to points that iPhone 8 rumors first surfaced in March 2016, nearly a year and a half ago, but first iPhone 9 rumors leaked in May.
