Apple Music Surpasses Spotify's Paid US Subscribers

According to people familiar with the matter who spoke to WSJ, Apple Music surpasses Spotify's number of paid subscribers in the United States, which occurred in early 2019; where Apple had more than 28 million US users in February, and Spotify had 26 million US paying users, exclude those in the Apple Music's free-trial or Spotify free tier.


WSJ report stated that Apple Music saw faster growth rate than Spotify, with a monthly growth rate of 2.6% to 3%, while Spotify is 1.5% to 2%. Whilst Apple's music streaming service also growing rapidly in other markets, Still, on a international basis, Spotify remains ahead in paid subscriber count, with the Swedish audio streaming platform now has close to 100 million users, compares to Apple Music's 50M.

Looking into future, Apple Music is likely to sustain its rapid growth, as the company is seeking to integrate it to devices like smart speakers. The Service business will continue to expand as Apple has recently announced four news service: Apple News+, Apple Arcade, Apple TV+, and Apple Card.
