Newzoo: Apple Became the World's Fourth Largest Public Gaming Company

According to Newzoo's Global Games Market report, Apple has become the world's fourth largest public gaming company, due to the rapid rise of mobile gaming and the way it operates the App Store. where Apple takes 30% of revenue from game developers, the company is only behind Tencent, Sony, and Microsoft, beaten other top public games companies like EA and Nintendo.


In the first quarter of 2018, Apple made $2.0091 billion from the gaming business and earned $2.303 billion, $2.524 billion, and $2.535 billion in the next three quarters, respectively. Collectively, in 2018, the company generated a revenue of $9.453 billion in this sector, an 18% boost from 2017.

As per the report, the total revenue of the world's top 35 game companies in 2018 was $114 billion, an increase of more than $10 billion from 2017. The 35 public games companies accounted for 82% of the Global Games Market, while the top 5 companies took 43% of their revenue.

In the next few years, it's expected that mobile gaming will outstrip PC gaming, and the Apple Arcade game subscription service should contribute a significant part of that achievement.
