TSMC To Start Apple’s 5nm Chip Production In Q1 2020

According to the supply chain report, Apple is secretly contacting TSMC. The latter will be the manufacturer for Apple's 5nm processor (A14), who will start the mass production in the first quarter of next year. Suppliers have been required to escalate the capacity in October this year.

Apple will be the TSMC's first customer in mass production of Apple's 5nm processors. The Taiwan based chipmaker is determined to be the first to provide 5nm chip mass production services in the industry, and once again complete Samsung's new generation of processors.

It’s widely believed that the number of transistors in a 5nm chip will surge 1.8 times and the performance will increase by 15% compared to transistors in the 7nm chip.

What’s more, it’s reported that Qualcomm's next-generation flagship chip, the Snapdragon 865, will be manufactured by Samsung instead of TSMC and will be manufactured using the 7nm EUV process.

This year's 2019 iPhone will continue to use the A13 processor in the 7nm process, which it should see gains in performance, improvements in AI and other areas.
