Bose Unveils New Portable Home Speaker With AirPlay 2 Support; HomePod Lands In Japan & Taiwan

Today, Bose introduced the Bose Portable Home Speaker, a new kind of speaker that supports Apple's AirPlay 2 specification. Meanwhile, Apple has also made its own smart speaker HomePod available to Japan and Taiwan.


At glance, the Bose Portable Home Speaker looks somewhat like HomePod, with a smaller size, at the bottom a meshed structure and at the top an aluminum shell. The speaker has a diameter of 7.5 feet and 4 feet. The speaker's top has an easy-to-move handle, weighs 2.3 pounds, and is IPX4 waterproof.

Bose said that this speaker is deeper than the bass of this size on the market, and can also support Apple AirPlay 2, Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, and you can also stream music on the go thanks to the 12-hour long battery life it includes, furthermore, by using the Bose Music app, you can also pair it with other Bose products.

The buttons at the top of the portable home speaker letting you to manually control power, volume, play / pause and skip tracks, adding a proprietary "mic-off" privacy feature that disables the power of the microphone so you can be sure that you are not being recorded.

Interestingly, Bose's new Portable Home Speaker is priced at $349, which is the original cost of Apple's HomePod speaker before they dropped the price to $299 earlier this year, and coincidentally, HomePod is now available for purchase in Japan and Taiwan.
