Report: Quanta Computer Begins Volume Shipments Of The 16-Inch MacBook Pro

DigiTimes quoted supply chain sources as saying that Taiwanese manufacturer Quanta Computer has begun volume shipments of the 16-inch MacBook Pro. The supply chain revealed that the laptop uses a more reliable scissors keyboard and bezel-less design, which should be available on the market by the end of 2019.

However, the 16-inch MacBook Pro is supposed to use the Intel Coffee Lake Refresh or the Ice Lake processor despite the fact that Intel has not announed the Ice Lake chip appropriate for Apple's premium notebook.

Reports have suggested the new MacBook Pro feature a larger display, but the actual size should be the same as the current 15-inch model just that the bezel is thinner. IHS Markit analyst Jeff Lin previously forecasted the notebook would have a resolution of 3072x 1920 pixels.

The 16-inch MacBook Pro icons found in macOS Catalina 10.15.1 Beta last week, which indicates the update to come. Both icons have "16" in the file name, referencing the unreleased 'MacBookPro 16,1' model.

Clearly, the 16-inch MacBook Pro will be positioned as an Apple high-end laptop, while the current MacBook Pro 15-inch and 13-inch offerings will remain and is expected to be updated with scissor keyboards by 2020.
