A report from Taiwanese media DigiTimes suggested that Apple is considering bundling AirPods with the new iPhones in 2020. The paper cited industry sources who asked not to be named that smartphone makers including Apple, Samsung, and Xiaomi all hope to bundle their upcoming phones with their own TWS headphones next year (TWS stands True Wireless Headphones).
But I am quite skeptical regarding the report. here is why:
You see, Apple has included basic wired EarPods with a Lightning connector in the box with the iPhone since the launch of the iPhone 7 in 2016. The headphones are cheaper to manufacture and officially retail for just $29.
On the other hand, AirPods, one of the best selling products in the Tim Cook era of Apple, saw a very considerable sales figure, especially in the case of the second-generation AirPods and AirPods Pro this year, which has created an immeasurable market for Apple. If they were to bundle it alongside the 2020 iPhones, I expect a price hike for those already expensive smartphones, which I am pretty sure most of us won't unable to stand it.
Just to recall that AirPods' price starts from $159, it is impracticable to establish the authenticity of this report. It is hard to foresee, though, that Apple would supply such expensive accessories while maintaining the price unchanged. AirPods are also selling extremely well, and Apple has no reason to give it free of charge.
Nevertheless, DigiTimes may not necessarily credible, but there is no reason that EarPods shouldn't be eliminated now, take into account that it's not universal capable, as it uses a Lightning connector rather than a headphone splitter.
So what do you think? Would they possible to do that?
