AirPods Pro Sold Out In Most Apple Stores, Shipping Estimate Slips To January

Apple's new wireless noise-cancelling headphones, AirPods Pro, have been on sale since October, but have already sold out in advance of the Christmas season, as the shipping estimate slips to January next year.

Analysts had previously predicted this. in particular, Wedbush analyst Dan Ives said in November that the AirPods Pro is "clear star of Black Friday and the holiday season" and predicted a shortage of the product. Ives then predicted that Apple will ship 65 million AirPods in 2019 and may ship up to 85 to 90 million units by 2020. (The number includes the cheaper AirPods 2 models.)

AirPods Pro, currenrly, is out of stock in Apple stores in November, CNBC reports, and orders will not arrive until Christmas. But at that time AirPods Pro was still available for purchase online and in many other retailers (including Target, Walmart and Best Buy). As of writing, though, most retailers' websites and physical stores are showing signs of out of stock.

When checking AirPods Pro order delivery status, we did indeed find that if you order the premium wireless earbuds today, it will not arrive until January 10th of 2020. Unsurprisingly, most Apple Stores have stock for the more affordable AirPods 2 model with a shipping date of December 19th, that is, this Thursday.

Reports have suggested that Apple is expanding the production of AirPods and AirPods Pro, asking the manufacturers to double their production in order to meet the high consumer demand.
