iFixit On 2019 Mac Pro Teardown: "A Masterclass In Repairability"

iFixit did the 2019 Mac Pro teardown recently, and according to the repair site, it have a nearly perfect score in repairability, citing claims that the workstation-class machine is "beautiful, amazingly well put together, and a masterclass in repairability."

As per the repair firm, the opening procedure couldn’t be easier, not to mention that basic repairs and upgrades can be carried out with standard tools or no tools at all. Moreover, major components are highly modular and use industry-standard sockets and interfaces, making replacements and upgrades a snap. Even better, iFixit says that Apple provides some step numbers and diagrams right on the device, and publishes free repair manuals for some repairs to help you get it right.

The downside is that the SSD cards are modular, but custom made by Apple, complicating replacement. Another one could be that if you need a replacement part that isn't on Apple's limited list of approved repairs you're likely to pay a dizzying price, for this part, users are recommended to get it done at an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

Apple's brand-new Mac Pro emphasizes a new design to deliver the highest performance, scalability, and configurability. The machine can be equipped with up to 28 core Intel Xeon processors and 1.5 TB of high-performance memory and has 8 PCIe expansion slots for superior expansion performance. Apple-designed graphics architecture can perform the world's most robust graphics capabilities. At the same time, the company-designed accelerator card Apple Afterburner will handle 3 sets of 8 K ProRes Raw video streams simultaneously. It also includes Apple's T2 security chip. The 2019 Mac Pro base model is available for order online for $5,999 and maxed out at $52,000.
