Kuo: iPhone 12 Not Include Charger In The Box; New iPads In 2H 2020 And 1H 2021

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in a research note issued to investors that iPhone 12 models will not include EarPods or a power adapter in the box. He also expects Apple to release a new 10.8-inch iPad in the second half of 2020, accompanied by a new 8.5-inch iPad in the first half of 2021.

Kuo believes that Apple will not bundle an iPhone 12 power adapter as the company will instead release a new 20W power adapter as an optional accessory and end production of its current 5W and 18W power adapters later this year. It has been leaked that the form factor of the new 20W power adapter is similar to the 18W variant, with USB-C Power Delivery for fast charging.

In addition to iPhone 12, Kuo says that Apple will stop offering a 5W power adapter with the second generation iPhone SE later this year, while he said that the 12W power adapter will remain to be included with the latest 10.2-inch iPad, iPad Air, and iPad mini models.

Speaking of iPad, Kuo expects the upcoming 10.8-inch iPad, and the 2021 8.5-inch iPad will ship with the new 20W power adapter in the box.

Kuo concludes that the iPhone 12 production costs will increase significantly as a result of 5G support, but anticipates Apple to sell new models at a price relative to its iPhone 11 lineup, and not including the EarPods and power adapter from the box is one way to reduce costs.
