Twitter Suffers Worst Security Breach To Date, FBI Now Investigating It

Twitter suffered the worst security breach in the company's history on Wednesday, and people familiar with the matter said that hackers were able to succeed mainly because they bribed Twitter employees.

Hackers had hijacked including Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, former President Barack Obama, reality star Kim Kardashian, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Microsoft CEO Bill Gates, and even Apple's Twitter account by gaining control of Twitter employee credentials.

The hackers posted tweets claiming to offer a double return on Bitcoin when unsuspecting followers transferred money to the scammers, by the end of the day, it is thought the crooks cleared well over $100,000 worth of Bitcoin.

In this regard, the people said that Twitter employees have a unshirkable responsibility, while some leaked screenshots also confirmed this statement.

A Twitter spokesperson said that the company is still investigating whether employees seized these accounts, or whether employees allowed hackers to access related tools.

People familiar with the matter said that hackers hijacked these accounts through an internal Twitter admin tool. According to some screenshots, at least some accounts have been compromised because the tool changed the associated email address. It is reported that a total of four people close to the hacker provided these screenshots.

The FBI has launched an investigation that is looking into how hackers were able to compromise the accounts that were secured with two-factor authentication.
