Apple Announces Second Generation Of AirPods Pro With A New H2 Chip And More

At its "Far Out" event, Apple today also debuted the second generation of AirPods Pro, featuring major upgrades to Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode, the introduction of Personalized Spatial Audio, the addition of Touch control for media playback, and volume adjustments. The new generation of AirPods Pro also has longer battery life, a new charging case, and a new ear tip size to better fit the user's ear shape.

“AirPods revolutionized the wireless headphone category with an innovative design and incredible sound quality. With the new AirPods Pro, Apple raises the bar once again,” said Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “The new AirPods Pro deliver even better sound quality, a more immersive listening experience with Personalized Spatial Audio, and transformative audio features like Adaptive Transparency. With up to double the noise-cancelling power of their predecessor, the world’s bestselling wireless headphones just got even better.”
The powerful new H2 chip is built into a lightweight and compact body, with up to twice the noise cancellation capability of the previous generation AirPods Pro. AirPods Pro features new low-distortion audio drivers and custom amplifiers that deliver deeper bass and crystal-clear sound across a wider frequency range.

Transparency mode allows users to continuously perceive their surroundings and keep up with what is going on. Now, Adaptive Transparency Mode takes this much-loved feature one step further. Powered by the powerful H2 chip, on-device processing technology reduces loud ambient noise, such as sirens from passing vehicles, construction noise, and even loudspeakers in concerts.

Personalized Spatial Audio allows AirPods to provide a more immersive listening experience. Each user perceives sound differently, which is related to the size and shape of each person's head and ears. Users can utilize the iPhone's TrueDepth camera to create spatial audio personal profiles for a listening experience precisely tuned for them. They can also relish personalized spatial audio with dynamic head tracking while listening to music, and watching movies and TV shows on iPhones, iPad, and Mac.

For the first time, AirPods Pro features a Touch control that lets you swipe up or down on the stem enabling quick volume adjustments. You can even press the stem to change the music, answer phone calls, and more, or say “Hey Siri” to make requests hands-free.

Battery life has also received improvement on the second generation of AirPods Pro, which offers 1.5 hours of additional listening time compared to the first generation. You can now charge AirPods Pro with an Apple Watch charger. While the newly designed charging case is sweat- and water-resistant, it is now easier than ever to locate the charging case thanks to Precision Finding.

AirPods Pro will be available to order for $249 in the US and more than 50 other countries and regions starting Friday, September 9, with availability in stores beginning Friday, September 23.
